How Sticky Wilds Behave

A sticky wild stays where it landed instead of disappearing after the spin. The lock lasts a defined period: a set number of spins, the remainder of a respin sequence, or, most commonly, an entire Free Spins round. While locked, it substitutes on every spin exactly like a normal wild.

Because the value of a sticky wild compounds over the spins it survives, games concentrate the feature inside bonuses where the accumulation is bounded. A bonus that gradually fills with sticky wilds is one of the most common high-volatility designs, and retriggers extend the time the collected wilds keep working.

Sticky behaviour combines well with Multiplying Wilds, producing locked multipliers, and with Respins sequences where each new sticky wild resets the counter. The umbrella concept is covered under Wild Symbols.

The distinction that matters: Walking Wilds also persist between spins, but they move one reel per spin and leave the grid eventually, while sticky wilds stay put. Wilds that are merely frequent but vanish each spin are not sticky, whatever the marketing says.
