How the Ante Bet Feature Works

Ante Bet is an optional bet modifier: switching it on raises the cost of every spin by a fixed percentage – commonly between 25% and 50% – and in return increases the chance of triggering the game’s main bonus, usually Free Spins. In most implementations the game either adds extra Scatter Symbols to the reels or doubles the natural trigger rate while the toggle is active.

The feature changes bonus frequency, not the bonus itself. Free spins triggered through Ante Bet play out exactly as they would on a natural trigger, and the paytable stays the same. Game rules normally state the exact stake multiplier and whether the RTP differs in Ante Bet mode, so the in-game help screen is the reliable reference for a specific title.

Ante Bet is easy to confuse with Bonus Buy, but the two work differently. Bonus Buy charges a one-off price – often around 100x the bet – and starts the bonus round immediately. Ante Bet keeps the game in its normal rhythm: every spin costs more, the bonus still has to land on its own, and nothing is guaranteed. Many games disable the Bonus Buy button while Ante Bet is active, so the two options are usually mutually exclusive.

The mechanic is closely associated with Pragmatic Play, which uses it across the Sweet Bonanza series and many other releases: there the 25% Ante Bet doubles the chance of triggering free spins. Other studios apply the same idea under their own labels, but the structure is consistent – a toggle near the bet controls, a fixed stake premium, and more frequent bonus rounds in the base game.
