How Respins Work

A respin spins part of the game again while the rest holds: either the whole grid repeats at no extra cost, or selected reels re-spin while the others stay locked. Triggers include near-miss configurations, special symbols, or persistent features that grant respins as long as their condition holds.

The locked-and-respin pattern underlies several major designs. Walking Wilds grant respins while a wild remains on the grid, and Hold & Win bonuses are structurally a respin loop: cash symbols lock, the counter resets on each new landing, and the round ends when respins run out.

Some games sell respins directly, letting the player pay to re-spin chosen reels at a dynamically calculated price. This paid variant is a targeting tool rather than a bonus and sits close to Bonus Buy in spirit, though it buys a reel outcome rather than a round.

Terminology check: respins repeat spins within the current game state, while a Free Spins Retrigger extends a running bonus with additional full spins. The two are often confused and are mechanically different.
